The prestigious annual WHATCAR? Awards took place last night at the Grosvenor Hotel in London and what a night it was for our fantastic D. M. Keith brands. Branded as the ‘Oscars” of the automotive world both ŠKODA and SEAT drove home with an impressive number of highly acclaimed awards.
The evening was a massive success for the SUV sector with the two latest editions to our family making a big impression on the judges. The new SEAT Ateca won the small SUV of the Year award and the brand-newŠKODA Kodiaq won the coveted large SUV of the year –we are sure there will be an array of silverware for this new entry into the SUV market.
Steve Huntingford,What Car? Editor, said: “We had high expectations for the Czech brand’s first large SUV, and the Kodiaq doesn’t disappoint. Our favourite model costs a little more than £28,000, and for that you get seven seats, four-wheel drive, a punchy 148bhp diesel engine and generous equipment levels. It’s simply a brilliant large SUV.”
Not to be outdone by the newest member of the ŠKODA family, the Fabia Hatchback continued its remarkable run of awards by clinching Best Small Car 2017. Crowned overall Car of the Year in 2015, the Fabia has retained its Best Small Car title for three years in a row – confirming it as one of the most complete superminis on the market.
Andrew Tracey, Head of Marketing for SEAT UK, picked up the category award for the Ateca at last night’s event. He said: “After the What Car? five-star review of the Ateca, we were quietly confident about its chances in this year’s awards. It offers everything a compact SUV buyer could ever need, with plenty of space, style, technology, quality, not to mention engines, transmissions and four-wheel-drive, to suit every conceivable need. So, naturally, I’m delighted that its breadth of talents has been recognised."
ŠKODA took home an impressive 6 awards and SEAT drove home with 3 awards.
