What is Ford BlueCruise?

Ford BlueCruise* is our latest driver assistance technology, building on features such as Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane Keeping Assist, and Speed Sign Recognition.

It enables a true hands-free driving experience on designated sections of divided motorway known as BlueZones.

A driver-facing camera within the instrument cluster monitors eye gaze and head position to help ensure the driver remains focused on the road ahead. At the same time, a network of advanced cameras and sensors helps keep the vehicle centred in its lane, while smoothly managing stop-and-go traffic for a more confident and comfortable drive.

How does Ford BlueCruise work?

Ford BlueCruise uses an advanced sensing system, including a driver-facing camera and steering wheel sensors, to help monitor driver engagement at all times. When the feature is available within Hands-Free Blue Zones, the instrument cluster displays an activation prompt featuring a steering wheel icon and on-screen notification.

To enable Ford BlueCruise, the vehicle’s modem must first be authorised through the FordPass app. The system will only activate when Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centring with Hands-Free Driving are enabled, and the vehicle’s cameras can clearly detect lane markings. Embedded mapping technology is then used to identify approved roads where Hands-Free Driving can operate.

Important information:

  • Drivers must remain attentive and be ready to take control of the vehicle when prompted.
  • Hands-Free Driving will only activate when the driver’s eyes are on the road and hands are positioned on the steering wheel before activation.

Which vehicles are capable of using BlueCruise?

Ford BlueCruise is currently available on selected Ford Mustang Mach-E models equipped with the Tech Pack, subject to software updates. Vehicles must also feature SYNC 4, the FordPass app, and Ford BlueCruise hardware capability.

To check your vehicle’s model year, log in to the FordPass app and open the vehicle dashboard. Your model year will be displayed at the top of the screen next to your account information.

Ford BlueCruise is also set to expand to new models from Spring 2026, including the Ford Puma, Ford Puma Gen-E, Ford Kuga, and Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid.

Introducing BlueZones

Over 95% of the country’s† motorways are  designated Ford Blue Zones, where Ford BlueCruise can be activated upon entering. With  automatic updates enabled and completed, your vehicle will have the latest Blue Zone routes.

 

Hands off, eyes on

Ford have rigorously tested Ford BlueCruise technology over 100,000 miles and consulting  the authorities for your peace of mind. Ford BlueCruise†† uses the driver-facing camera in the instrument cluster to check that your attention is on the road ahead before the vehicle takes control.

 

Adaptive Cruise Control

Combining Speed Sign Recognition and Adaptive Cruise Control†† your speed will be automatically set to the zone detected. For example, if going from a 70 mph into a 40 mph your vehicle will gently slow to 40 mph. When activated, Ford BlueCruise uses our intelligent Lane Centring technology to maintain steering control between lane markings
