The Civic Type R first debuted in 1997, based on the sixth-generation Civic hatchback in Japan. Since then, it has evolved through six generations, earning its place as a flagship hot hatch with numerous special editions and improvements over the years.

As the sun sets on the iconic Civic Type R in Europe, Honda has announced the launch of the ‘Ultimate Edition’ Civic bidding farewell to the model we once knew and loved. Limited to just 40 units across Europe, this exclusive model isn’t just a car, it’s a celebration of nearly three decades of performance, engineering and fan passion.

Following the Type R legacy, The ‘Ultimate Edition’ wears championship white and features custom red decals across the bonnet and along the sides. These bold details reflect the iconic red Type R badge. The painted black roof complements the overall visual design, while carbon fiber parts, like the wing spoiler and door sills, add to the model’s bold look and lightweight feel. 

Inside the car features a carbon-finished centre console and additional ambient lighting to highlight key interior areas such as the door lining, footwell and under-seat space. The attention to detail extends to the Type R logo projector, casting the emblem proudly as the doors open, displaying the model’s special edition status.

Additional track records have been achieved at renowned venues including Magny Cours (France), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), Hungaroring (Hungary), Estoril (Portugal), Suzuka (Japan), Silverstone (UK), and Mount Panorama Bathurst (Australia). 

The Civic Type R’s on-track success has also reached the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), along with various regional series where it has been a standout performer—securing both driver and team titles. These competitions feature vehicles derived from mass-produced, front-wheel-drive models, making them a perfect match for the Type R’s performance pedigree.
