A Helping Hand

We all like to think that we could parallel park into the tightest of spaces with our eyes closed – and now you basically can (we still recommend you keep them wide open, though). The Kia Ceed’s Smart Park Assist (SPA) system uses front, side and rear sensors to guide you into parallel and perpendicular spaces. All you need to do is work the accelerator, gears and brake. A rear view camera provides dynamic guidelines to safely usher the Ceed into the space.

Motorway driving is a doddle with the Ceed’s Smart Cruise Control (SCC). The Stop and Go function keeps a close eye on the speed and distance of the vehicle ahead, giving it some welly if it speeds up and applying the brakes accordingly if it slows down to maintain a safe distance.

The same sort of concept applies to pedestrians when you’re in the city. Kia’s Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) will warn you if it senses any approaching risk of collision with people or vehicles, using the camera and radar sensors. The steering wheel will even vibrate when a pedestrian steps into the road. If you fail to take action, the car brakes automatically in order to avoid a nasty accident.
